Going into week five the Rush were averaging 63. 3 points per game which ranks them as the second highest scoring offense in the league behind Philadelphia. In its first two games the Brigade lost by five combined points – losing to Tampa Bay 51-49 in Week One and at New York 50-47 in Week Two but allowed almost as many points from the first two games combined in the 92-52 loss last Monday to the previously winless Grand Rapids Rampage. Kansas City (0-3) has had one of the AFL’s top defenses since entering the league in 2006 but allowed the second-most points in league history which is also the most ever by a road team. San Jose head coach Darren Arbet said that everything “snowballed on them” and referred to the Brigade losing a couple of balls “off the iron” that inflated the score. The SaberCats are no stranger to losing the ball off the iron to the Rampage either. In the Week Two victory at Grand Rapids San Jose trailed 13-0 after Rampage kicker Brian Gowins ricocheted a ball off the bottom of the net structure into the hands of Kenny Higgins for a score… Additionally the team placed linebacker Jerry Turner and defensive back Kahlil Carter on recallable waivers after the Rampage game. Carter was a big free-agency acquisition when Kansas City traded former team captain Kenny McEntyre to Orlando. PIVOTAL GAME FIVE FOR SABERCATSThe fifth game of the season has been a crucial game for the SaberCats the past three seasons. Last year on its run to ArenaBowl XXI San Jose was 2-2 heading into a Game Five contest against Colorado. The SaberCats won 72-44 that game and finished 14-1 to win their third ArenaBowl in six years. Two years ago San Jose lost to eventual ArenaBowl champion Chicago in Game Five. With the loss the SaberCats fell to 1-4 but won nine of its last eleven games to win the Western Division then lost by three points to the Rush in the American Conference championship game.

This game was originally slated to be played at St. Augustine in Trinidad. But the venue has now been shifted to Shaw Park in Scarborough Tobago. The game against a West Indies Select XI still to be named begins on Saturday and is three days duration.
